Homework

A half-page homework log will be provided to students every Monday to keep track of their completed homework.  The homework log is due every Friday, signed by a parent or adult to indicate that it was completed.  Students will learn how to fill out their homework log during the first weeks of school.

OPTION 1:  TRADITIONAL (PAPER/PENCIL)

Word Study Homework:  Spend at least 20 minutes a week on your choice of the activities listed.  If you are interested in practicing your words in a way that is not listed, let me know.


  • Write each of your spelling words with a different color marker or colored pencil.
  • Write your words in ABC order.
  • Have someone give you a practice test.  For any words you spelled incorrectly, rewrite 3x correctly.
  • Write a silly song, poem, or story using all of your words.
Math Homework:  Practice basic addition/subtraction facts using your own flashcards for at least 20 minutes this week.  You can purchase addition/subtraction flashcards at Dollar Tree, Wal-Mart, Target etc.

OPTION 2: ON THE INTERNET

Word Study Homework:  Practice your word study words on the following website for at least 20 minutes a week:  www.spellingcity.com/gorrie3

  • Find the box that says "Spelling and Vocabulary List"
  • Click on the correct list (it will be numbered and listed by date)
  • Click either "Teach Me", "Test Me" or "Play a Game."
  • You can even print your spelling list by clicking "Handwriting Practice" and then "D'Nealian" or "Cursive"
Math Homework:  Practice basic addition/subtraction facts on any of the following websites for at least 20 minutes this week.  If you are interested in practicing your basic facts on a website that is not listed, let me know.

In addition, students will receive a math worksheet every Tuesday to practice skills they are learning in class.  Students will have until Friday to turn in this assignment staples to their Homework Log.

Students are also required to read for an average of 20 minutes a night, Monday through Thursday.
